Eat Cookies to Get a Better SAT Score

Eating cookies can help your child get a better SAT or ACT score. Stop laughing! I’m totally serious! Careful research in my own home suggests that 100% of students will laugh when assigned sweet confections for schoolwork. (Complaining may resume after laughter has ended, however, so your mileage may vary.) Hear me out – here’s how to raise test scores by baking!

1. Give a sample SAT test at home.

  • Give the test in the kitchen, timed.
  • I find that the SAT test pairs well with chocolate chip cookies.
  • While the child takes the test, you bake cookies.
  • Once the test is finished, reward them with cookies and an afternoon free from school.
  • The student will associate the test with pleasure and sweetness, not pain.

2. Give a sample ACT test at home.

  • Give the test in the kitchen, timed.
  • I find that the ACT test pairs well with brownies and chocolate cake.
  • While the child takes the test, you bake the brownies or cake.
  • Once the test is finished, give the child the freshly baked treats, and allow the rest of the day off school work.
  • The student will associate the test with sweetness, not pain.

3. Compare the SAT results to the ACT results.

4. Study for the test that is best for your child.

  • Studying for only the test that gives your child the best percentile ranking is the simplest, easiest way to get a better SAT or ACT score!
