We’ve changed curriculum and methods several times over the years. We just enjoy change because it brings in new perspectives and re-energizes our homeschool – much like re-arranging the furniture makes you see the things you own in a new way.

I think we’ve been able to do this successfully because many years ago I made a list of competencies and topics that I felt were important for a well-rounded education, so as long as we are checking things off that list, we feel we are on track, even during those years when we were penny-pinching and used the library and internet for everything. I think it helps to have an overarching plan in place before you make significant changes.

Thank you for this message. I have been panicking over changing curriculum the whole time I have been homeschooling for 7 years. My son has learning issues and I have had a terrible time finding what clicks for his learning. I feel like we never get to complete a grade level because we are always starting and restarting. He doesn’t do so well on testing each year so I am unsure how to always “catch him up.” Any suggestions?
